What we use

Something that differentiates us from the rest, is the quality of ingredients we source and our dedication to transparency throughout the manufacturing process. You can, therefore, find below a list of all the ingredients we use to make our product, their benefits and supporting studies.

Natural Toothpaste

Calcium Carbonate

Source: extracted from one of the purest deposits in Europe, located in North-East Italy, is of the highest quality.
Use: we use calcium carbonate as a mild polisher and remineralising agent.
Benefits: in a study in 2005 in Caries Research calcium carbonate was shown to effectively enhance enamel remineralisation, and according to a 2008 study in Clinical Risk Management these remineralising properties support healthy teeth and bones.

Fractionated Coconut Oil

Source: known also as MCT Oil (Medium Chain Triglyceride) is derived from coconut oil. 
Use: we use MCT Oil as a natural stabiliser to those products containing virgin coconut oil, to maintain a soft texture even at low temperatures.
Benefits : it works as an effective plaque remover. In a 2015 study 'Effect of coconut oil in plaque-related gingivitis' coconut oil pulling was shown to significantly decrease the plaque and gingival indices of the 30 day period.

Kaolin Clay

Source: this soft, white, naturally occurring and porous clay is extracted from sediments in Cornwall, England.
Use: is added as natural, mild polishing agent and to whiten the enamel without damaging it.
Benefits: its highly absorbent properties mean that it effectively detoxifies the mouth removing oils, secretions, and toxins. It also works as a natural preservative keeping our products fresher for longer.

Virgin Coconut Oil

Source: this oil is derived from organic coconut husks from the Philippines.
Use: VCO is a key ingredients used in most of our products. It acs as a natural emollient and humectant, serving as an alternative to synthetic glycerin.
Benefits: it helps preventing plaque-induced gingivitis and tooth decay. When compared with a common and popular ingredient in most mouthwashes - chlorhexidine - in a 2016 study by Journal of International Society of Preventive & Community Dentistry, coconut oil was shown to reduce oral bacteria and prevent dental decay from forming. Not only was coconut oil statistically significant in decreasing dental decay but it was equal to that of its synthetic opponent chlorhexidine.

Shea Butter

Source: a fair-trade & organic butter obtained from the shea nut tree of West Africa.
Use: to combat dry mouth and to naturally improve texture in our formulations.
Benefits: moisturising and nutrient-rich, Shea Butter is high in vitamin A, E maintaining smooth and soft oral tissues.

Diatomaceous Earth

Source: it comes from freshwater diatom-deposits of the algae of the phylum Bacillariophyta and is mostly extracted in South America.
Use: as a mild abrasive as well as a great source of natural silica, essential for tooth strength.

Benefits: rich in the mineral natural Silica, Diatomaceous Earth helps effectively cleaning teeth without damaging enamel. It is also used in order to avoid more synthetic abrasive materials like hydrated Silica.

Sodium Bicarbonate

Source: our sodium bicarbonate comes from wet crude bicarbonate. Once calcined it forms slurry, then filtered and polished through spark type filtering. The solution is then carbonated to form sodium bicarbonate crystals. Made in France.
Use: as a polisher and whitening agent, we use this effective polisher in many of our products.
Benefits: this low-abrasive powder removes tooth stains as well as alkalising the pH in the mouth to promote remineralisation.

Activated Charcoal

Source: our Pharmaceutical Grade is made in England from purified activated carbon.
Use: this natural abrasive for teeth whitening is used only in our Activated Charcoal product range.
Benefits: activated charcoal is mildly abrasive and has highly absorbent properties making it an effective stain remover. It is also perfect for drawing toxins which can cause bad breath and gum disease.

Essential Oils

Use: these natural and food-grade essential oils are used to give flavour to our products, avoiding synthetic flavourings.
Benefits: as well as offering unique and real taste without you getting close to any synthetic flavourings, also act as natural antiseptics and are anti-inflammatory in our products.

Source: commonly known as cream of tartar, this white crystalline organic acid occurs naturally in many fruit plants like grapes, pineapples and potatoes.
Use: to regulate acidity and increase stability.
Benefits: a natural alternative to synthetic acidity regulators but also shows great benefits gum tissues because its antioxidant property.

Sodium Benzoate

Source: sodium salt of benzoic acid.
Uses: anti-fungal and food-grade preservative used in our mouthwash tablets.
Benefits: food-grade preservative that balances pH level to create an anti-fungal environment. 

Natural Colourings

Source: this food-grade colourings are pigmentation extracts derived from fruits and plants.
Use: in our mouthwash tablets, these are added to provide colour and improve flavour.
Benefits: using natural colourings instead of synthetic reduces the risk of mouth sores and reactions caused by commercial colouring chemicals. 

Menthol

Source: obtained from mint oils.
Uses: menthol has a natural refreshing flavour, which is why we add it to our mouthwash tablets.

Benefits: alongside aiding fresh breath, menthol has been traditionally used to help treat gastrointestinal problems, pain, inflammation and congestion.

Thymol

Source: extracted from Thymus vulgaris and various other kinds of plants.
Use: as an active antiseptic used in our natural mouthwash tablets. 
Benefits: due to its antibacterial and anti-fungal properties it is effective at treating sore throats and minor mouth inflammation.

Uses: an important source of magnesium that is an ingredient in our Natural Toothpowder. 
Benefits: plays a significant role in remineralising teeth and bones.

Dicalcium Phosphate

Source: it is produced by the neutralisation of calcium hydroxide with phosphoric acid, which precipitates the dehydrate as a solid. 
Use: Dicalcium Phosphate is effective at removing tooth stains and polishing teeth due to its mildly abrasive qualities.

Benefits: it eliminates bad bacteria and odours inside the mouth while it aids natural remineralisation of the enamel.

Dental Floss

Ahimsa Silk

Source: this biodegradable and cruelty-free silk is obtained only once the worms have hatched and the cocoons are vacant, made in a way that is more humane to silkworms than many traditional methods. Grown and produced in the Chinese silk region. 
Use: Ahimsa or Peace Silk it's the base of our natural silk floss.
Benefits: this silk biodegrades without polluting the environment and can be composted straight into your own compost bin as well as any council scheme.

Candelilla Wax

Source: this vegan wax which is used in our natural silk and charcoal floss, is derived from the leaves of the small Candelilla shrub native to northern Mexico and the southwestern United States.

Use: we apply candelilla wax to our natural floss to bind essential oils to the silk and charcoal filaments.
Benefits: this wax is both a vegan and natural alternative to synthetic coating materials. It conditions and softens tissues and helps retain the essential oil flavours on the silk fibres.

Charcoal Fibres

Source: this biodegradable fibre is obtained from bamboo charcoal and blended with 20% polymers. This floss is both vegan and cruelty-free but not suitable for home composting.
Use: it gently increases abrasiveness in our charcoal floss and toothbrush bristles.

Benefits: the highly absorbent properties make it an effective stain remover.

Sodium Palmate

Source: this saponified salt is derived from RSPO certified organic palm oil from sustainable agriculture.
Uses: we use palm oil as a foaming agent in our natural toothsoap.
Benefits: as a gentle, plant-derived foaming agent, that also cleanses and removes stains. 

Sodium Palm Kernelate

Source: sodium palm kernelate is a sodium salt of the fatty acids derived from sustainable and organic RSPO kernel oil.
Use: it's used as a foaming agent in our natural toothsoap.
Benefits: as a natural ingredient, Sodium Palm Kernelate is gentle cleanser that allows us to offer a foaming property without the use of SLS.

Sodium Chloride

Source: also known as salt, is an ionic compound with the chemical formula NaCl.
Use: in our toothsoap formulation as pH regulator
Benefits: this salt works as a gentle abrasive, helping to remove stains from the teeth.

Citric Acid

Source: from fruit and vegetables, most commonly citrus fruits.
Uses: this weak organic acid, acts as a natural preservative in our toothsoap.
Benefits: as well as being a preservative it also acts as a pH buffer, helping to regulate pH in the mouth.
